Hi, We’re the Hagars!
We’re the faces behind the Family Archivists: Rachel and Morgan Hagar. We live in Portland, OR with our twins and our two cats (what can we say? We like even numbers).
Our own family archive means everything to us, and we understand the level of trust it takes to hand those original items over to someone.
As a small, family-owned business, our very first goal is to take excellent care of your keepsakes and memorabilia, and make sure you feel comfortable throughout this process. That starts with knowing who WE are. You can learn more about us below!
You want to ensure your memorabilia is safe and sound while it’s in our care. Here’s how we do that:
-
Most analog items (prints, slides, negative, albums and scrapbooks, etc.) are one-of-a-kind. We recognize that fact and take care of your collection as though it were our own.
We do not open your collection until it is time to work on it and when we do we handle everything with gloves.
Sadly, most old photo collections are stored in deteriorating, non-archival storage boxes or envelopes in garages, attics, crawl spaces or basements.
We recommend storing your newly organized collection in photo albums, boxes, and envelopes that are all acid-free and archival for generations to come.
-
As soon as we receive your digital images, we make two copies so that there are a total of three sets of your collection:
-You have one set (the originals)
-We have a working set and a backup set. This insures you always have a safe copy of your digital as well as your digitized analog collections.
We also assist in recommending and implementing reliable photo backup and storage solutions to ensure the safety of your digital memories, preventing potential loss due to hardware failure or accidents to ensure all of your memories are safe.

The Family Archivists Did a Fantastic Job
The Family Archivists did a fantastic job of helping our family get our photos scanned. Now we are able to share all photos with all family members. This was particularly important for preserving our ancestors's photos and documents so that our children will be able to connect our family history with the photos. The quality of the work, the restoration of old photos and the customer service was excellent. I would definitely use them again.

I highly recommend The Family Archivists for anyone with digital preservation needs, especially for old slides. I entrusted them with family slides and audio tapes that were over 40 years old, and the final product exceeded my expectations. They brought those wonderful memories back to life in ways I hadn't imagined.

Thoroughly Impressed With the Quality of the Work
I used The Family Archivists to have family photos digitized for my mom’s celebration of life service. Some of the pics were very old and not in very good shape. I was thoroughly impressed by both the quality of the work and how quickly they were able to get the job done. The team was attentive, knowledgeable and easy to work with, and I can’t recommend The Family Archivists enough for great quality digitized photos.

Would Absolutely Recommend The Family Archivists
I recently worked with Rachel and Morgan at The Family Archivists to digitize my family's collection of historic photos. From my first interaction with them, it was clear that they are experts in the field of preserving family history. They were passionate about helping me to ensure that my family's memories would be well cared for. They assisted with recommending archival materials to store my physical materials and set up an easy to use system for my now digitized photographs with file names and keywords. Morgan also retouched several old, damaged photographs, bringing them back to life. I really enjoyed my experience working with The Family Archivists and would absolutely recommend them to anyone who needs help organizing their family photos.

I Can't Thank The Family Archivists Enough for Their Incredible Work
I can't thank The Family Archivists enough for their incredible work. Morgan beautifully restored a cherished portrait of my mother in her youth that has a crack right through her face. Now there’s a seamless beautiful smile where her mouth was missing. Where others were unsuccessful, Morgan expertly worked his magic. He kept in constant communication with me and the turnaround time was excellent.
I was referred to The Family Archivists by a professional photo organizer. From the start, Morgan and Rachel were professional and understanding. They carefully explained the restoration process and put my worries at ease. I am now finally able to move forward with including this portrait in a legacy photobook that generations will enjoy.

Really a Wonderful Experience
They did an awesome job organizing and editing our picture collection down to a reasonable archival state. Everything was preserved and saved, but only the best parts take up digital storage space. Really a wonderful experience getting all of our parent's photo albums archived and presentable.

Rachel Was Amazing to Work With
Rachel was amazing to work with! I reached out to see if she could help with a very specific project with a tight timeline and she was so easy to work with. She was very transparent with pricing and kept me informed every step of the way.
I handed her a fat stack of photos and in the end, she delivered a beautiful photobook (and the digital copy of the photos and the book too). It was a gift for my dad and he literally carries it around to show people. I definitely plan on doing more of these projects in the future! Thank you, Rachel!

The Family Archivists Exceeded All My Expectations
The Family Archivists exceeded all my expectations! They organized and digitized approximately 40 years of photos and videos (which included reel-to-reel, VCR, Hi-8 and Mini-8, and DVD) for my family. For the first time we can share them digitally and more importantly, easily watch videos and access photos. The memories are priceless, but having this done is the best money we spent this year! Can’t say enough!! 11 out of 10!

Easy to Work With, Flexible, and Produce Excellent Results
I had around 60 family photos that I wanted to have digitized so that I could make a photo album for a family member.I received the finished products today, and I am delighted with the results. I am amazed at how Morgan was able to revive faded and spotted 100-year-old images, some of which were on their way to extinction. It's also touching to see the freshness in my 80 year-old-mother's adolescent face, which had been discoloring slowly over the years.
I highly recommend the Family Archivists to anyone who wants to preserve the visual history of their family for the generations to come. Rachel and Morgan are easy to work with, flexible, and produce excellent results.

I Can't Recommend The Family Archivists Enough
I have been carting around tubs of photos, birthday cards, newspaper clippings, and artwork that my daughter has created. These are all very special things to me, but I had no way of viewing them unless I wanted to dig through the chaotic jumble inside my tubs - and I did not.
The Family Archivists photographed each piece so beautifully and carefully. I cannot wait to make an album of these photos so that I can look through them easily and be reminded of all those special moments in my and my family's lives. Thank-you Family Archivists for preserving such special memories for my family and me. It is really special what you're able to do.

Will Use Them Again For More Pictures
I had a major need of digitizing some old photos and went looking on the internet and local Yellow Pages for ideas. The internet gave me some, but many of the reviews suggested that photos were sent out of country to be done and I was skeptical of the turn-around time and that all the pictures would be returned. The Yellow Pages put me onto The Family Archivists and I called.
Rachel explained their services. I was most impressed that she could scan pictures from albums without removing them; could do pictures in the order that I wanted; could label the pictures so the receiver would have a clue of what they might be looking at.
She went through all of the pictures with me to make sure of what I wanted and I was out the door and she was on the job. Within a week, the job was done and ready.....as promised. The pictures are in the order I specified and are easily identified when opened on the drive. I printed a couple of pictures and they look as they should.
If you have pictures you need to preserve or pass onto multiple relatives, meet with Rachel and she can suggest how to best complete the job you want done. I have more pictures and will be using her again.

I have been carting around tubs of photos, birthday cards, newspaper clippings, and artwork that my daughter has created. These are all very special things to me, but I had no way of viewing them unless I wanted to dig through the chaotic jumble inside my tubs - and I did not.
I also didn't like the physical weight of the tubs and how much space they were taking in my home. Each time I saw them I would sigh thinking to myself..."you've got to do something with all of that stuff..." But the idea of trying to make it organized and easily accessible overwhelmed me, and The Family Archivists took all that overwhelm away for me.

Rachel and Morgan are My Digital Earth Angels
Rachel and her husband are my digital earth angels!! They are truly so skilled and absolutely and obviously love what they do. They resurrected a 1989 VHS tape of me on the Price is Right with Bob Barker. It is priceless! They digitized a clip of my deceased grandma and deceased mother, that I will cherish forever. My kids got to see that their grandma had black hair back in the day!! I was even able to see glimpses of the home that I grew up in. It was like walking back in time. Don’t hesitate to contact The Family Archivists. They are incredibly communicative, prompt, caring, and very economical! They will be digitizing all the rest of our VHS tapes and then next onto the old fashion photo albums! Thank you Rachel and Morgan for your invaluable and expert service.
